What many of us take for granted – a safe place to go after school, a full stomach, and academic support – eludes many Canadian children.

Macaulay’s Homework Club provides a safe haven for more than 200 children annually. It’s a place where children can learn, make new friends and gain important life skills that will greatly impact their long term success.

Our program intervenes at a critical time in children’s lives. It builds confidence, teaches empathy and equips children with the knowledge and skills needed to become resilient adults. The Homework Club stands as a positive, nurturing environment in communities where it is all too easy for children to learn bullying and discouragement.

ABOUT MACAULAY

The Macaulay Child Development Centre has dedicated over 80 years to nurturing children and families. Established in 1932, Macaulay was founded in the home of Hazel Macaulay who began providing care for children in need. With our roots in early learning and family support, we know firsthand the diverse and complex needs of today’s children. We believe that children thrive in strong families, classrooms and communities. Our mosaic of programs and services puts this belief into action to enrich the lives of over 7,000 children each year, including those at risk due to special needs, poverty and neighbourhood violence.

JOIN US AND HELP CHANGE THE NUMBERS

$3,000 – Feeds 25 students a nutritious snack at one homework club location for an entire school year

$1,600 – Supports one student to attend the Homework Club for one school year

$1,000 – Provides physical activity and gaming equipment including; basketballs, badminton rackets, hoola hoops and chess boards

$500 – Provides resilience training for children in the Homework Club who are coping with stress

$300 – Provides one parent education workshop for 10 families with children attending the Homework Club

$100 – Provides 2 hours of additional counseling and support to children with special needs attending the Homework Club

$40 – Buys and fills a backpack with school supplies for a child in need
